Toyota Giving Drivers "False Reassurances" Congressman Says
60+ Drivers Tell NHTSA Cars Keep Surging Out of Control After Being Fixed
By BRIAN ROSS, JOSEPH RHEE, ANGELA M. HILL and MEGAN CHUCHMACH
Mar. 4, 2010
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said tonight is has received more than 60 complaints from Toyota drivers whose vehicles are still experiencing sudden unintended acceleration, even though the cars have already been recalled and supposedly fixed.
Some drivers say the company's recall fix has not solved accelerator problem."Officials are contacting each and every consumer to learn more about what they say is happening," NHTSA said in a statement.
The federal safety agency has also "asked Toyota to provide information about any complaints it has received from customers," NHTSA said. "If it appears that a remedy provided by Toyota is not addressing the problem it was intended to fix, NHTSA has the authority to order Toyota to provide a different solution."
The chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee said today that Toyota still hasn't proved its giant recall is solving potentially fatal safety problems.
"They are false reassurances that people are getting from Toyota if, after the recall, after their car is supposed to be fixed, there is still this problem of sudden acceleration," Rep. Henry Waxman, D-C.A., told ABC News.
In Whitesville, Kentucky, Toyota driver Carolyn Kimbrell said her 2006 Toyota Avalon continues to surge unexpectedly, even after the dealer made sure it complied with the accelerator pedal recall.
"It's a pretty scary feeling when you're trying to stop your car and it won't stop," Kimbrell said.
Waxman said Toyota still hasn't proved that the sudden acceleration problems are not caused by an electronic glitch with its vehicles.
"Cars are being recalled to be fixed and they're not being fixed," said Waxman. "That means that they haven't found out why this problem is occurring. And they insist that it's not the electronics. But they haven't shown us the evidence upon which they base their conclusion."
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says it has received more than 15 similar post-recall complaints from Toyota owners in the last week.
Among the complaints is a driver who said that even though her 2009 Toyota Matrix had its brakes and gas pedal serviced Feb. 10, the car was still uncontrollable Feb. 26.
"I was driving about 5 MPH in a parking area with my son," the woman wrote to NHTSA. "I put my foot on the brake and I felt the car push forward… My son said "It's doing it again Mom!"
A 2008 Toyota Avalon owner said the car was backing out of a driveway a few days after being serviced "when it accelerated on its own and the car did about 3 loops around the garage area of the home causing damage to the car, benches, tree, bushes, lamp post, etc."
Another complaint says a 2010 Toyota Camry surged suddenly just five days after having its recall work done.
The new post-recall complaints were first noted in a report by Safety Research & Strategies (SRS), a private research firm based in Rehoboth, Mass.
According to SRS, "Toyota executives are confident that their recalls will end the SUA complaints - they've said that into every microphone that's been put in front of them. Some consumers who have taken their recalled vehicles in for the fix have a different story."
In response to the new complaints, Toyota said it has "found no evidence in these investigations of a failure of either vehicle electronics or of the recent remedies that Toyota has announced for floor mat entrapment and sticking accelerator pedals."
As soon as we received these new reports, our new on-site inspection "SWAT team" moved quickly to investigate them," the Toyota statement continues. "We have submitted the results of this initial review to NHTSA. Though these reports involve a tiny fraction of the more than one million vehicles our dealers have repaired to date, we take them extremely seriously."
Former ABC News producer Stewart Stogel said the newly-installed failsafe system, which cuts off power when the brake is pressed, in his 2009 Toyota Camry is not working at moderate speed.
Even though a Toyota dealer performed all the recall procedures, "the car has lurched out of control on at least one occasion since the fix," Stogel said.

ABC admits tinkering with Toyota story
NEW YORK, March 13 (AP) - (Kyodo)â€â€ABC News has acknowledged it used visuals in its story on sudden acceleration problems with Toyota Motor Corp. vehicles that did not show what was actually happening, U.S. media reported.
The network's Feb. 22 story illustrated a report by David Gilbert, a Southern Illinois University professor who suggested that a design flaw in Toyotas might trigger a short circuit that would go undetected by the car's computer system, causing sudden unintended acceleration.
ABC correspondent Brian Ross's report showed him driving a Toyota with Gilbert that was rigged to quickly accelerate. Even though he knew it was coming, Ross said the incident left him shaken, and that he had a hard time getting the car to come to a stop, U.S. media said.

Kata "dibayangkan" kadang bisa diganti dengan "diinginkan"...Risol1 wrote:Kalo yg ane baca sih, toyota udah recall 1.7 juta mobilnya sampe sekarang, yg pasti sih belom kelar karena mereka masih terima recall kalo ada customer yg dateng.maskopat wrote:om risol, jadi gimana nih lanjutan dari si tole? udah kelar recall berjuta2 mobilnya? trus, apa bener dugaan mobil2 belasan tahun lalu juga bermasalah?
Kalo ttg mobil toyota jadul yg bermasalah ya ane engga tau pasti.
Setuju, yg udah ngerasain Toyota reliability gak kalah banyaknya, malah berlipat-lipat-pat ganda banyaknya.
Reputasi tidak datang dalam sekejap, tidak juga hilang sekejap

man.tab.Toyota: What, Me Worry?
March 29, 2010 - If you, dear reader, had expected (or, perish the thought, hoped) that SUA hype and rapid fire recalls would bring Toyota down, then stop reading immediately. What follows will not be good for your circulatory system.
Ok, you have been duly warned: The Nikkei reports that Toyota’s domestic output in Japan rose 119.6 percent on the year to 309,933 units in February, up for the fourth straight month. Toyota’s exports increased 106.9 percent to 150,232 units, the second straight monthly improvement. Sales in Japan grew 49.9 percent from the previous year to 149,604 units last month, up for the seventh month in a row. Toyota’s overseas output was likewise unimpressed by the avalanche of auto-accelerating autos. It improved 58.8 percent to 345,247 units, marking the seventh consecutive month of growth.

hehehe... pantas Ford jauh2 hari udh mutusin kontrak gendenk kyk gini (GM n Chrysler terlambat... oh kasian dikau)
masa kontrak begini mau dipertahankan di jaman persaingan gila spt skrg?

Toyota offers strong incentives during March 2010 after dramatic drop in auto sales
March 2, 4:35
Toyota announced Monday that for the month of March 2010 they will offer aggressive incentives on the sale of certain Toyota models. The incentives include 0% interest for 60 months, free maintenance for two years, and rebates.
After several massive recalls over the past few months, Toyota has had a dramatic drop in sales, and as a result the incentives are now being offered.
According to Reuters:
Toyota will offer zero-percent financing for 60 months on some 2010 model year vehicles, including its most popular Camry and Corolla sedans and other vehicles involved in safety recalls.
Returning Toyota customers will also receive a complimentary two-year "Toyota Auto Care Premium Package" that includes oil changes and other maintenance services, the source said. Cash rebates ranging from $500 to $3,000 will also be offered depending on vehicles.
Toyota sales fell 47% from December to January 2010 after the recall announcment. Toyota sales fell 16% from one year ago in January, according to Edmonds.com. Toyota was estimated to drop 12% year-over-year. The drop in sales came immediately after Toyota announced a recall in early January.
CNN reported that 19 people have died from problems with the Toyota floor mat and gas pedal problems. In January, Toyota recalled three million Toyota vehicles because the gas pedal problems caused sudden, uncontrolled acceleration that may end in a crash.
Toyota announced several weeks ago that the dealerships are ready to begin fixing the recalled vehicles, for more information on that story, click here.
The problems with Toyota and the recalls over the past few months creates an opportunity for other dealerships. "Every dog has his day," said Jerry Seiner who owns several General Motors dealerships in Salt Lake City. "Maybe they'll take a second look at us instead of Toyota...when Toyota stumbles it's our opportunity."

Party Time At Toyota: March Sales Way Up
While others have a bit prematurely called for a Toyota death-watch, we’ve been following the story of comeback kid Toyota for a while. In Japan, ToMoCo’s production, domestic sales, and exports are solidly up. In the U.S.A., where Toyota had taken the biggest recall-pummeling, Edmunds predicted a 37.1 percent rise over March 2009. Looks like their crystal ball is in fine shape. Expect Toyota to surprise when March numbers come out.
Jim Lentz, president of Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A., told Automotive News [sub] that Toyota expects March sales to be up 30 to 35 percent over year-ago figures, outpacing industry gains. As far as industry gains go, Edmunds expects those to be 31 percent, we’ll hear a big sigh of relief when March numbers will be announced in a few days.
