Peugeot's V12 Diesel : 700 hp, 1200(!) Nm
In December, Audi announced it would compete in the Le Mans racing series with a car powered by twelve-cylinder diesel engine. This week, French automaker Peugeot announced similar plans for the 2007 season. The company hopes to win one of the most prestigious and most demanding motor races in the world, the Le Mans 24-hour race, with the Peugeot 908, a car powered by a V12 HDi diesel engine, equipped with a diesel particulate filter system (DPFS). Unlike the race-winning 1990s Peugeot 905  which was powered by a 3.5-litre V10 gasoline engine  the new contender will be powered by a 5.5-litre V12 HDi diesel engine. The expected output  more than 515kW (700 bhp) of power and torque greater than 1,200 Nm  is unprecedented for a diesel engine. It’s only a matter of time until we see a diesel supercar. We suspect many diesel enthusiasts look forward to that day.
