Toyota Yaris
TOKYO - Toyota Motor Corp plans to start manufacturing its Yaris subcompact in Thailand as early as next year for sale in Southeast Asia, The Nihon Keizai Shimbun newspaper learned Friday.
The production - the first for this model in the region - is expected to begin at a scale of about 50,000 units a year. Production lines will be set up at two existing Thai factories.
The move will be carried out as part of operations adjustment stemming from the planned launch of mass production for the IMV global strategic vehicle at a new Thai factory in 2007.
Toyota makes the IMV, the Camry, the Corolla, and the Soluna Vios in Thailand, for a total of around 270,000 units in 2004. Increased output of the IMV and the production launch for the Yaris will lift the figure to nearly 500,000 as early as 2008.
Car sales in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) countries have been marking double-digit annual growth. With small, fuel-efficient vehicles in particular enjoying sharp growth in demand, Honda Motor Co. released the Jazz subcompact in 2003 and has since launched local production of the car.
Toyota hopes to increase its shares of production and sales in the ASEAN region by strengthening its lineup through the addition of the Yaris. With an engine displacement between 1 and 1.5 liters, the vehicle is smaller than the company's mainstay Corolla and will be targeted at first-time buyers.
In 2004, Toyota manufactured 133,000 units of the Yaris at two factories in Japan and 204,000 units at a French factory. Sales came to 60,000 units in the Japanese market and 280,000 units outside Japan, mostly in Europe.

Omong2 sudah ada yang lihat Toyota Vitz/Yaris belum?
Saya pernah lihat sekali di showroom Ivan, n terus terang sedikit kecewa karena penampilannya tidak sebagus yang saya bayangkan. Satu minus lagi adalah ruang kepala di kursi luar baris ke-2 agak terbatas bahkan sampai mentok kepalaku. Yang pasti orang setinggi saya (183cm) ngak mungkin nyaman di situ deh.

Gw pernah liat Vitz silver di kampus gw, mungkin angkatan baru karena baru kali ini gw liat. Sekilas sih eye catching banget modelnya, diparkir disebelah jazz. Jazz jadi ngga ada apa2nya, tampang depan Vitz lebih macho karena kap mesinnya lebih tinggi, kalo Jazz jadi lebih feminim karena lebih landai. Bodi Vitz terlihat lebih berisi. Sisanya gw ngga tau karena cuma liat model luarnya aja, tp untuk interior yg gw liat di SM lumayan sih.

Mengenai harga, saya yakin TAM akan ngeset cukup kompetitif untuk bisa bersaing dengan Jazz. Dengan penjualan Jazz sebulan bisa 3.000-4.000 unit, mana mungkin TAM anggap enteng segmen ini, betul gak? Sedangkan Suzuki Swift CBU saja dengan harga 154.5juta masih kurang laku, berarti Yaris/Vitz harusnya dibawah itu dong untuk bisa penetrasi pasar.
Mungkin ada yang bilang: Fortuner kan lebih mahal dari CRV/Xtrail. Tapi itu kan segmen yang beda (7 vs 5 seater, kapasitas mesin). Atau lihat kasus Camry vs Accord, Altis vs Civic, kan Toyota selalu lebih mahal???
Tapi menurut saya untuk sekali ini, Yaris/Vitz harus diset harganya diantara Jazz iDsi dan Vtec. Karena menurut saya, secara produk, Yaris/Vitz masih kalah sama Jazz (Jazz dengan fitur ultraseat masih lebih fleksible dan praktis daripada Yaris/Vitz). Kalau harganya diatas Vtec, saya meningan ambil Vtec aja.
O, btw, sales bilang penjualan turun sepertiga belakangan ini.

Unfortunately, aku yakin Vitz tidak akan jauh lebih murah daripada Jazz Vtec. Mungkin sama atau bahkan sedikit lebih mahal. Karena 1.5L VVTi itu setara dengan 1.5L Vtec, sama sekali tidak di bawahnya.
Kasus Altis, Camry yg lebih mahal memang lucu. Padahal, personally, I would gladly pay a premium for a Honda over a Toyota. But not most Indons, I guess..?

Oya, omong2 soal Honda. Sepertinya HPM sedang memposisikan City makin diatas Jazz, dengan perbedaan harga yang semakin jauh (176juta dibandingkan 139juta, selisih 37 juta), dibandingkan dulu waktu Jazz baru dilaunching, selisihnya paling cuman 27 juta.

- It's still an independent carmaker, unlike Nissan (now Renault's).
- It's cars are driver-focused (Dark Lord : "jok Honda keras").
- It prioritizes R&D (Asimo)
- It makes the world's best engines, and its engines revv high, no superchargers or turbochargers (S2000 : 240HP from 2.0L engine at 9000 rpm!)
- Lately it does brave new designs (new Odyssey and Civic Euro hatchback) and awesome interiors (new Odyssey, new Civics).
- It's one of the hybrid pioneers with its own IMA system, and it dares to do a different approach than Toyota (Hybrid Synergy Drive).

wah kalo saya jadi fanatik merk mobil tertentu di Indonesia bakalan susah juga, pilihannya terbatas banget.
Saya setuju design mobil Honda memang lebih driver oriented. Tapi selain Honda, mobil2 lain yang saya pernah kendarai semuanya Suzuki!
Ada yang liat iklan Suzuki Swift? Tampaknya mereka bener2 ngandalin ABS+Airbag serta mesin VVT nya sebagai fitur andalan mereka lawan Jazz. Tapi kok dari kemaren saya baru liat satu Swift di jalanan ya?

eeeh, saya kesan Nissan fanatic soalnya kebetulan mobil yang saya suka kebetulan mereknya Nissan.
Tapi once again may I remind all that jika c24 lambang Nissannya di ganti Toyota, atau Honda, atau Suzuki, saya tetap beli !

Kenapa saya tidak beli Terrano, meskipun harganya murah, di bawa 200 juta ? Soalnya kalau mobilnya tidak enak, Nissan, Carlos Ghosn kek, saya juga NO WAY ! Saya tidak hutang Nissan / Ghosn apa apa. Saya tidak merasa harus beli mobil mereka.
Tapi kalau mobilnya bagus, cocok untuk kebutuhan saya, ya saya akan puji habis !

Mr. Obs is NOT going to buy the Vitz. Come on ! Dia sudah beli Fortuner yang jangkung itu. Kecuali dia mau beliin anaknya atau istrinya. But highly unlikely ! He loves big things ! Just like me ! Cuman he got more money than me ! Lucky Boy !
Kemarin lihat Elgrand malam hari di mal. Wah ! Tiap kali lihat dia, I tell myself, Got to get one of those one day !
Will the Vitz beat Honda ? Belum tentu. Dengan harga segitu, tergantung mana yang lebih lega dan enak. Jazz is a tough opponent at less than 150 juta OTR. Even Toyota's big name doesn't guarantee anything. Look at how the Innova 2.7 is eaten alive by the c24 !
Mr. Conan. don't get me wrong. I have a high regard for Honda Motor too. Why do U think I bought the Stream and not the kijang kapsul way back in 2002.
Dan saya pernah juga rasa sayang Nissan sudah ngak 100% Japanese car maker. Sudah di makan 40% ama Renault. Istilah sudah ngak " pure " lagi.
Tapi ya jika Renault dan Ghosn bisa make things better, I guess harus terima kenyataan.
Cuman really, badan saya ngak tahan jok keras dan bantinggan keras. So Honda, see U next time !

Tapi ada perkembangan yang menarik. Tahu gak Focus hatchback 2.0 dijual hanya seharga 242.5juta, ON THE ROAD, dibandingkan dengan sedan 1.8L seharga 271juta! Man, if I'm in the market for a mid-size sedan, this focus hatchback is definitely an interesting proposition.
Mudah mudahan nanti ada Civic hatchback yang dijual lebih murah dari versi sedannya
