Nissan releases new Tiida Latio compact sedan

Further on our previous news story, Nissan Motor Co., Ltd issued the following press release:

Nissan Motor Co., Ltd., today announced the domestic launch of the Tiida Latio. With its refined interior and fresh, modern design, the Tiida Latio is a compact sedan that creates a new standard for small sedans. The Tiida Latio is the sedan version of the Tiida compact hatchback released on Sept. 30.

A modern, premium-quality interior
The Tiida Latio offers a modern, premium-quality interior that surpasses the standard for its class, thanks to the meticulous attention paid to fit-and-finish quality and the addition of thoughtful details and refinements.

To give the interior a sense of luxury, soft-feel materials are used on the instrument panel padding, door trim fabric and tricot mesh headliner. Materials with a soft feel are also used for the door and center console armrests.

Distinctive woodgrain trim is used for the dashboard paneling, shift lever knob and power window switch finishers. The appearance reproduces the fine, wavy grain pattern of high-quality horse chestnut wood to create a modern, elegant ambience. The woodgrain trim is standard on the 15G, 15M and 15M FOUR and is a dealer-installed option on the 15S and 15S FOUR.

The metal rings around the meters and the door handles are trimmed with a silver finish to complement the interior with a smart, clean look.

The interior themes are “comfort” and modern,” and the exterior design has been executed around the themes of "spacious” and “modern." Advanced body proportions and the sedan form are blended through the treatment of modern styling details.

The long roof and cabin-forward position hint at the generous length of the interior. Designed with a classical horizontal motif, the front mask accentuates the impression of the car’s width. At the rear, the solid shapes of the fenders on either side of the car and the trunk together create a dynamic, three-dimensional form.

The wide opening of the trunk lid allows exceptional ease of use.

The Tiida Latio's paint quality is equal to that of upscale luxury models.

Best-in-class interior roominess
The Tiida Latio’s interior length, measured from the accelerator to the rear-seat hip point, is on par with the Cima luxury sedan, enabling both front- and rear-seat passengers to stretch out their legs in relaxed comfort. The interior also has ample headroom and shoulder room.

The large trunk has a class-leading capacity of 467 liters (VDA).

The pass-through in the rear center armrest on the 15M, 15G and 15M FOUR has a large opening for added convenience when taking out or putting items in the trunk from the rear seat.

Impressive driving performance
The Tiida Latio is fitted with a front-intake/rear-exhaust, all-new 1.5-liter HR15DE engine. Steps were taken to reduce friction, improve thermal efficiency and boost charging efficiency, enabling the all-aluminum engine to deliver greater torque at low to medium speeds, operate more quietly and reduce fuel consumption.

A Tiida Latio model fitted with a newly developed 1.8-liter, in-line four-cylinder engine is scheduled to be released in early 2005.

The 15M and 15G models are also equipped with Nissan's XTRONIC CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) that provides quick vehicle response, smooth acceleration and improved fuel economy.

At the front, the Tiida Latio has a strut suspension system, and an H-shaped torsion beam system is used at the rear. The suspension system incorporates rebound springs, ripple-control shock absorbers and other advanced features to deliver outstanding handling and stability combined with superb ride comfort.

Additional highlights:
Practicality

The navigation system is now easier to operate, thanks to its simple turn-and-push interface and intuitively understood menu screens. The driver simply turns a center dial to a desired item and then selects it by pushing a switch. The functionality of the navigation system has also been improved, including the addition of a fastest-route search capability. This function uses past statistical traffic data and real-time VICS (Vehicle Information and Communication System) data obtained via Nissan's CARWINGS telematics service to find the fastest route to a driver's destination. A next-generation, DVD-based TV/navigation system compatible with CARWINGS and incorporating Bluetooth-enabled hands-free functionality is also available as an option.

Optional equipment for enhanced driving ease include a side blind-spot monitor and a back-view monitor. The side monitor reduces the blind spot near the front end on the left side, providing helpful visual support in various situations, such as when positioning the car alongside the edge of the road. The back-view monitor displays a color view of the area behind the car on the navigation system screen for improved rearward visibility.

Vents located on the top center of the instrument panel direct cooling air upward to cool the space above passengers' heads without striking their faces directly.

Each front-seat is provided with control dials for adjusting vent openings to personal preferences. These control dials allow both the driver and front passenger to vary the air volume independently.

Safety and environmental performance

Standard safety equipment on all models includes front-seat Active Head Restraints and dual SRS airbag systems for the driver and front passenger.

All Tiida Latio models are certified as super ultra-low emission vehicles (SU-LEVs) because they emit 75% fewer emissions than the levels required by Japan's 2005 exhaust emission regulations. In addition, the Tiida Latio's fuel economy ranks among the best in its class. Over 40 technical measures were adopted for improving fuel economy, resulting in an average improvement in practical fuel economy of more than 20% as measured under real-world driving conditions. The 2WD models are certified as achieving Japan's 2010 fuel economy standards plus an additional 5%, and the 4WD models are certified as achieving the 2010 standards. As a result, both the 2WD and the 4WD models qualify for tax reductions under the Green Tax program in Japan.

Origin of the model name

The name Tiida was coined from the English word “tide,” referring to the ebb and flow of the ocean. Latio was derived from the English word “latitude,” signifying freedom of action.

Sales target: 3,000 units/month

Dealers selling the Tiida Latio: Nissan and Motor channels dealers belonging to the Nissan Blue Stage and Prince, Satio and Cherry channel dealers belonging to the Nissan Red Stage (including Nissan Red and Blue Stage dealers that handle all models).

Gw kurang suka sama modelnya. Karena patahannya serba tanggung gitu ... jadi mobil keliatan jangkung. Memang sih skg lagi trend model begitu, spt City, Baleno dan Vios. Untungnya Vios masih lebih proporsional. Gara2 nya mereka ngejar kelegaan ruang, akhirnya modelnya serba tanggung begitu.

Tapi ... interiornya elegant banget, mirip TEANA.
