Soap Grease
Calcium Soap Grease
In a typical manufacturing process of calcium soap grease, mineral oil, fatty acid, calcium hydroxide (hydrated lime) and water are mixed and cooked to bring to saponification. The process is complete after adjustment of water content. Grease made with tallow contains a small amount of water as structural stabilizer, and, when heated above 80°C, it loses its associated water, resulting in structure breakdown and separation of oil from thickener. Due to this poor heat resistance, it is used for general plain bearings operating under rather low speed and low load where temperature would not rise above 70°C in service. The water resistance is good on the other hand, and thus the grease performs well in applications exposed to water.
Use of caster oil fatty acid results in a grease which contains no water. Because the structure is stabilized without water, it can be used up to about 100°C.
Lithium Soap Grease
Lithium soap grease is the most widely used multi-purpose grease, from general industrial uses to automobiles, bearings and home electric products. It consists of mineral or synthetic oil and lithium stearate or lithium salt, a hardened fatty acid derived from castor oil. Usable in a wide range of temperature, and has excellent water resistance and mechanical stability.
Aluminum Complex Soap Grease
Aluminum complex grease is made from a complex soap which is formed by reaction of aromatic carboxylic acid and stearic acid on aluminum hydroxide. Aluminum complex grease is characterized by a very fine fiber structure, high dropping point (200°C or above) , excellent heat and water resistance and mechanical stability.
Lithium Complex Soap Grease
The soap is formed by reaction of lithium hydroxide with the mixture of fatty acid and dibasic acid. The dropping point of the finished grease is 250°C or higher. Lithium complex grease has excellent heat and water resistance and rust preventing property, as well as longer life at high temperature than lithium soap grease.
Non-Soap Greases
Urea Grease
Typical urea grease formulation uses organic compound containing more than two urea groups (-NH-CO-NH-) as thickening agent. Because of its excellent heat and water resistance, urea grease is an optimum choice for continuous casting lines and iron mills, and actually is the most widely used nonsoap grease.
Urea grease is also widely used for automotive electrical components. For high temperature condition, synthetic oil based urea grease is preferred.
Bentonite Grease
This grease thickened by organic bentonite is often called "grease without dropping point" or "grease without melting point," because it does not lose the grease structure even at extremely high temperature.
The grease can offer other advantages like good shear stability, but its application is limited because of rather poor rust prevention, hardening tendency when exposed to high temperature condition (200°C or above) for a long time, and poor ability to keep oil film on the bearing race surface during high speed rotation.
Other Non-Soap Greases

Tapi artikelnya cuma jelasin spek berdasarkan kondisi suhu kerja nya aja,
bisa jelasin aplikasi ke kendaraannya gimana ?
misalnya untuk lumasin bagian A, sebaiknya pake grease tipe ini,
bagian B cocoknya grease tipe itu..

kalo grease untuk drive shaft / CV joint yang paling cocok apa ya? boleh sebut merk. soalnya kadang belepotan keluar padahal karet boot udah rapet
kalo di bengkel kaki2 kadang dikasih gemuk gak jelas
kalo di bengkel kaki2 kadang dikasih gemuk gak jelas

gemuk lithium based biasa ane pake buat bearing, cv joint ato release fork kopling yang bunyi kriet kriet...
sama anti seized grease buat lumasin komponen karet kaya rem (ini bahannya apa ya?)

coba cari high temp grease. buat cv joint ane cuma pake BM1 yang tube kaya odol. ga tau bagus apa ngga pake ini merk cuma karna murah dan gampang ditemuin di supermarket sih. sejak ganti udah 3 taun ga ada tanda tanda gemuk meler keluar. anehnya justru sisa gemuk yang ga dipake malah agak mencair gitu setelah beberapa taun disimpen.

nah kalo penggantian grease rutin ini idealnya berapa KM ato taun ya dgn asumsi pemakaian normal?
selama ini ngerawat mobil ane jarang banget berurusan sama grease. patokannya cuma kalo keliatan ada yang rembes aja deh baru bongkar dan re-grease...

Sekarang malah saya adanya Grease untuk sepeda, dari Teflon fluoropolymer.. Gak lengket macam grease buat industri yg memang hightemp..
Btw bearing yang di lumasi juga keramik jadi lebih minim friksi dari carbonsteel..

Sy butuh pencerahan ni om mengenai pelumasan area steering component, baik rack steer, rack end, tie rod, link stabl dn ball join. Jadi plan nya saat pergantian komponen tersebut niat nya mau sy lumasi dgn grease yg baik.
Nah saya ingat perkataan om turbo klo grease gaboleh asal campur kecuali memang masuk dalam compatibility list.
Karena sy ga ada pengerahuan mengenai grease bawaan pada komponen tersebut, apakah d perbolehkan kalau grease bawaan sy rontokan total dengan degreaser barulah sy grease ulng dengan grease baru? Kalu memang cara itu salah mohon arahan tentang cara yang tepat. Terimakasih

kalo Tie rod / Ball Joint gitu umumnya isinya NLGI 2......tapi jaman skg kan udah amat sgt jarang yg ada nipple-nya, kecuali di kend besar

Yang atas disebut moly graph lithium, yang bawah gak disebut jenisnya
CV joint bekerja nya:
1. Diputar speed tinggi
2. Extreme pressure
3. Panas yang lumayan karena dekat dengan jalur exhaust. tapi kalau mobil jalan sebenarnya gak terlalu panas
Saya lagi menimbang mana yang paling cocok, karena bedanya cuma dikit.
Supaya bisa melindungi mobil dengan lebih bagus.
Lebih tepatnya karena CV joint 5 sd 10 thn sekali, sekalian saja yang bagus hehehehe

Yg penting nlgi 2, dan RUTIN.. beli grease gun, tiap ganti oli mesin skalian ngolong tembak vet, kerjaan 5 menit kurang kelar itu.. tinggal cari nepel nya di tiap joint as kopel, total 3 biji
Btw, itu cv joint kl bener2 d baca d manual nya, dsuru per 10 rebu di cek / d tembak vet
Kl per 5 - 10 taon , ud ga usa pusing tembak vet lg, tp skalian ganti aj bearing spidernya

klo gemuk silicone untuk slide pin kaliper rem recommend pake apa om? klo di luar negeri setau ane ada merk 3M, di indo agak sulit carinya, mohon info ya

Kalau tidak sampai 125 C, sepertinya dibawah 2 diantara dibawah ini yang cocok

-Timken load paling tinggi 80,
-Lithium, EP, Plastic safe,
-Drop point 550 F
-Working temp -23 sd 204 C,
-Flash point 150 C. (agak aneh dicompare nomer 2 dibawah, harusnya flash point lebih tinggi dari working temp)
