Ternyata kunci keberhasilan Toyota menciptakan mobil2 yang durable dengan harga yg (awalnya) terjangkau adalah dengan sourcing material2 penting ke produsen non Jepun, dimana harga lebih ekonomis dan kualitas juga memenuhi standard Toyota


SOUTH KOREA: Posco becomes top non-Japanese steel supplier to Toyota

The Japanese division of South Korea's biggest steelmaker has been accepted into the Kyohokai, the elite grouping which comprises the top one percent of Toyota suppliers.

Posco has been supplying steel for Toyota's Indian and Indonesian plants since 2003 as well as to certain facilities in Japan for the last three years, Kyohokai spokesman Nakaji Honda told Bloomberg. The weakening of the won versus major currencies has given the Korean firm an advantage against Toyota's long time preferred partner Nippon Steel.

Konon POSCO juga mensupply ke berbagai produsen mobil Jepun lain selain Toyota, konon yang pakai baja POSCO juga di antaranya : Daihatsu, Isuzu, Nissan & Honda (utamanya yg pabrik2 di luar Jepun kayaknya)

POSCO has recently been accelerating its sales network expansion in Thailand to fortify itself as a top steel sheet provider of leading global carmakers and home appliance producers based in the Southeast Asian country.

The steel producer is a supplier for Toyota, Isuzu, Honda, Mitsubishi and other Japanese makers in the Thai region. Moreover, 30 percent of products purchased by Nissan and the Auto Alliance Thailand (AAT), comprised of Mazda and Ford, come from POSCO.

Japan is of particular importance to Posco, beyond the advantages of the stronger yen. Posco shipped 7 million tons of auto steel sheet in 2011, with 11 percent allocated for Japanese carmakers.

Facilitating this opportunity is the forthcoming merger between Nippon Steel (Tokyo: 5401) and Sumitomo Metal Industries (Tokyo: 5405). Japanese automakers historically have not purchased more than 40 percent of their steel from one supplier, but the merger will increasingly force them to meet their needs from one, consolidated source.



Kualitas ? Cukup lihat ketahanan Pansah, Ipah & Fortuner yg sudah exist hampir 10 tahun :))

Konon bbrp tahun terakhir Toyota juga banyak beli material ke BaoSteel (BaoShan Steel), termasuk baja utk Crankshaft dan katup mesin

apalagi skrg posco udah ada di indonesia (krakatau-posco) dan punya steel mill di cilegon. Hidup produk lokal :D

Yang perlu diingat juga, kualitas baja selain dari dari raw material, juga faktor treating nya, heat treatment, quench, dll..selain itu juga welding process(saat fabrikasi), dll hingga QC nya...
Btw baja standar pabrikan di indonesia yang digunakan, mengacu metode yang mana ya ? ASTM ? EN ? JIS ? jenisnya juga apa ?justru ini yang kritikal karena kita bisa liat orientasi pabrikan lebih besar kearah safety / cost ?

Betul

Cuman ya pasti utk bisa diterima pabrikan besar merek kelas dunia tentu ada syarat2 ketat yang harus dipenuhi oleh supplier / vendor

Bahkan sering vendor juga diaudit juga oleh pihak pembeli, utk vendor2 utama / komponen utama (utk situais di industri automotive besar)

kalau Jepang kemungkinan besar nya di JIS Oom ...

Kalo pabrikan mobil pasti mereka punya standard pengetesan sendiri, gak cuman ngeliat JIS dll

sample steel sheet mereka test dulu di lab mereka.....dan testingnya bisa makan waktu lama

Kalau pernah tahu bagaimana proses "approval" material sepatu oleh major brand spt Nike / Adidas, ya pasti pabrikan mobil lebih ketat lagi......

Bisa keterima jadi supplier bahan baku utama pabrikan mobil kelas dunia sih betul2 luarbiasa

jangankan material yg lgs dipake si pabrikan mobil, material / material pendukung yg dipake oleh pabrik komponen penyuplai pabrikan mobil aja kadang mesti dilaporkan kepada si Buyer (pabrikan mobil) utk mendapat approval

Kadang si vendor material sendiri juga belum tentu untung atau profit super tipis aja, tapi krn buyernya makan volume besar banget, lalu apalagi kalau kayak Toyota ada istilah vendor "Ring 1", maka itu ibarat "Iklan" bagi si vendor............

POSCO is promoting Twinning-Induced Plasticity (TWIP) steel for next-generation automobiles. TWIP steel enables complex-shaped automobile components to be easily processed, fuel efficiency to improve, car bodies to be lightened, while its enhanced strength safeguards a car's occupants in an accident. POSCO has already established a mass-production system for advanced high-strength steel (AHSS), which has a tensile strength of 490MPa. AHSS endures a maximum of 50 kg of weight per mm2, but is even thinner than the 270-340 MPa automobile panels commonly used. Twinning-Induced Plasticity (TWIP) Steel

TWIP steels have a high manganese content (17-24%) that causes the steel to be fully austenitic at room temperatures. A large amount of deformation is driven by the formation of deformation twins. This deformation mode leads to the naming of this steel class. The twinning causes a high value of the instantaneous hardening rate (n-value) as the microstructure becomes finer and finer. The resultant twin boundaries act like grain boundaries and strengthen the steel. Figure 2-16 shows the as annealed microstructure for a TWIP steel.

TWIP steels combine extremely high strength with extremely high stretchability. The n-value increases to a value of 0.4 at an approximate engineering strain of 30% and then remains constant until both uniform and total elongation reach 50%. The tensile strength is higher than 1000 MPa. Engineering and true stress-strain curves for TWIP steel grades are located in Figure 2-17 in the Advanced High-Strength Steels Application Guidelines.

TWIP 500/980 Wheel, lower control arm, front and rear bumper beams, B-pillar, wheel rim

TWIP 600/900 Floor cross-member, wheelhouse

krn market blm smart (ciri has low compliance market ) maka independent consumer report blm jadi pertimbangan tiap brand dlm hal apapun bersifat go-or-no go

smua masih bersifat independent assessment...in-house maupun outsourced clientele

Hub Posco dan Japs automaker spt nya for worldwide market, including for their JDM cars

Sy sih cuman melihat hebatnya si Posco ini bisa dipercaya oleh produsen2 mobil Jepun yg traditionally mereka biasa prefer steel from Nippon steel / Kobe steel / JFE / Japs steel comps.

Posco konon juga mensupply ke pabrikan mobil Jepun yg ada di Mexico.......juga di Thailand, India dan China

Bahkan mereka juga dipakai oleh European automakers spt VW dan Porsche

Saya wondering pendanaan expansi / RnD / pabrik modern mereka yg massif ini dibiayai oleh siapa aja yah selain bank kreditor / investors, apa mereka juga dapat privilege dari pemerintah KorSel utk pendanaan ?

Sy sempat baca2 kalo Berkshire H - Warren Buffet pegang 5% saham Posco
