J.D. Power Asia Pacific Reports:
New-Vehicle Initial Quality Improves in Indonesia

Suzuki Aerio, Isuzu Panther, Nissan X-Trail and Toyota Kijang Innova Rank Highest in Initial Quality in Their Respective Vehicle Segments

SINGAPORE: 1 December 2005 — Initial quality of new vehicles in Indonesia stands at 154 problems per 100 vehicles (PP100) in 2005, according to the J.D. Power Asia Pacific 2005 Indonesia Initial Quality StudySM (IQS) released today. This is a marginal improvement of 7 PP100 over 2004.

The study, now in its third year, measures new-vehicle quality in the first two to six months of ownership. The study focuses on 135 problem symptoms affecting quality across nine IQS problem categories: ride, handling and braking; features and controls; seats; heating, ventilation and cooling (HVAC); sound system; vehicle exterior; vehicle interior; transmission; and engine.

The composition of problems in Indonesia has remained fairly stable over the past three years. Ride, handling and braking and engine continue to be the top two problem categories, together contributing to more than one-third (36%) of all problems reported by new-vehicle owners. Excessive fuel consumption and difficulty in operating the manual transmission remain the top two problem symptoms experienced.

Suzuki Aerio ranks highest in initial quality in the entry midsize segment with an IQS score of 115 PP100. Improvements in the vehicle interior; engine; HVAC; vehicle exterior; transmission; and ride, handling and braking problem categories contribute toward an overall improvement of 30 PP100 since 2004. Toyota Vios follows in the segment rankings with a score of 139 PP100.

Isuzu Panther leads the entry SUV segment with 138 PP100, performing particularly well in five problem categories: ride, handling and braking; HVAC; sound system; transmission; and engine. Mitsubishi Kuda (146 PP100) follows with the fewest problems reported in the segment for features and controls; vehicle exterior; and vehicle interior.

Nissan X-Trail tops the SUV segment for a second consecutive year, recording a score of 101 PP100—the fewest number of problems of any model in the study. Nissan X-Trail improves by 16 PP100 since 2004, and leads the segment in ride, handling and braking; features and controls; transmission; sound system; vehicle exterior; and vehicle interior. Honda CR-V (115 PP100) follows the X-Trail in the segment rankings.

In the newly created MPV segment, Toyota Kijang Innova debuts by leading the segment with a score 131 PP100. It is the only model to secure above segment-average scores, turning in the best scores in this segment on features and controls; transmission; seats; and ride, handling and braking categories.

The study also finds a correlation between vehicle quality and customer satisfaction with the overall ownership experience as well as with future advocacy intentions. The proportion of customers who say they are "pleased" or "delighted" (rating it an 8 to 10 on a 10-point scale) with their overall ownership experience is more than twice as high when no problems are encountered compared to owners who experienced three or more problems.

"Fewer problems experienced contribute toward a more favorable ownership experience and this, in turn, translates to higher loyalty and advocacy intentions," said Rajeev Nair, country manager at J.D. Power Asia Pacific. "While one in three customers (33%) who do not experience any problems with their vehicle’s quality say they would ‘definitely’ recommend the model to a friend or a relative, this drops to fewer than one in eight (13%) among customers who experience three problems or more."

The 2005 Indonesia IQS is based on evaluations of 2,378 new-vehicle owners representing 13 makes and 42 models, and includes owners who purchased their vehicles between December 2004 and June 2005.

Jadi ngak ketahuan tipe tertentu.

So yang bilang I mau cari gara gara, sentimen, terserah.

So my advice ?

Kalau saya, A itu bukan volume, tapi A itu victory for the Indonesian people.

Itu baru A.

Kalau cuman definisi volume doang, misalnya nanti AUV tanpa safety feature sama sekali, plat setipis kaleng sardin, mesin Terrano, terus harganya cuman misalnya 140-150 juta, seperti Innova E.

Tapi can I give Nissan an A for that ? Of course not ! Kita orang Indonesia akan jadi the losers jika begitu.
