Best/worst for reliability

The BMW X3 took first place, with owners finding the SUV’s engine and gearbox as sturdy as a rhinoceros bouncer. The Porsche (the 911) was placing just 48th and the Audi TT can only muster a best placing of 63r.

Seven of our ten most reliable cars hailing from Japan. Three Hondas - the Jazz (3rd), S2000 (7th) and CR-V (8th), join the Toyota MR2 (2nd), Lexus RX3000, Suzuki Ignis (5th) and the Mazda 3 (10th) in the upper echelons of the customer satisfaction league.

Eight out of the ten least reliable cars come from across the Channel, with the Peugeot 807 propping up the table: two further Peugeots (the 307 and 407), a pair of Citroens (C3 and C8) and a trio of Renaults (the Megane, Espace and Scenic). The Range Rover and Ford S-MAX are on the same list.

Best/worst for build quality

Sixteen of the 25 worst-built cars in the survey are the spawn of the unholy Peugeot-Citroen-Renault triumvurate, and it’s no surprise to find the Peugeot 807 propping up the list again.

On the best-built cars the Honda S2000 tops the list, with slightly obsessed owners revelling in the tactile ’feel’ of the mechanical components and, perhaps a touch worringly, the pleasant smell of their roadster.

The S2000 edges a brace of Lexuses - the RX300 (3rd) and IS200/300 (5th) - the Toyota Landcruiser (7th) and Honda Jazz (6th).

The top ten also finds room for a pair of Audis - the A2 (4th) and old TT (8th) - and the Porsche 911 (10th), while Skoda’s Superb achieves an, erm, superb finish in ninth place.

Itu saya satu bukti udah. Ini bukti kedua. Kedua pengguna BMW 318i itu sangat berdukacita, bukan maksud mereka pakai jalur kanan di Nuremburgring. Akibatnya kepala tes Toyota tewas, padahal dia pakai helm. Harusnya BMW pinjemin airbagnya dong.

The special designation given to the GX 460 by Consumer Reports -- "Don't Buy: Safety Risk" -- is rarely given by the magazine.

Peugeot EX1 Concept pecahkan speed record

Platform yang dipakai adalah mobil konsep Peugeot sebelumnya seperti Asphalte dan 20Cup. Untuk membuktikan potensi mobil ini, Peugeot EX1 yang meiliki daya maksimal 340hp ini berhasil memecahkan tiga rekor kecepatan sekaligus.

Dengan akselerasi lebih cepat dari supercar, Peugeot EX1 berhasil mencetak rekor baru untuk 400meter, 500meter dan 1000meter yang sebelumnya di buat oleh Georg Von Opel menggunakan Opel GT Electric tahun 1971. EX1 juga mencetak rekor baru untuk mobil yang beratnya kurang dari 1000kg untuk jarak 200meter, 800meter dan 1600meter.

Start dari posisi diam, EX1 mencatat waktu: 200m (8.89sec), 400m (14.4s), 500m (16.81s), 800m (23.85s), 1000m (28.16s), dan 1600m (41.09s). Rangkaian rekor ini dibuat Nicholas Vanier, penjelajah dan produsen film asal Prancis.

Fuel Economy World Records

Peugeot is the proud holder of two Guinness World Records for fuel economy, both set using HDi diesel technology in the tough Australian conditions.

Our first world record was achieved in 2002 for the furthest distance travelled on a single tank - 2,348km (Melbourne to Rockhampton) from a single 70 litre tank of fuel. The record was set in a Peugeot 406 HDi.

Our second record, originally set in 2004 and then broken again in 2008, was for the overall round Australia fuel economy.

The 2004 trip, in a 307 Touring 1.6 HDi travelled a distance of 14,634 at an average of 3.49 l/100km. Bettering that effort was a trip 4 years later, this time in a 308 1.6 HDi. The figures are even more amazing, with a distance of 14,580km travelled at an average of just 3.13 l/100km.

The cars used in each trip were completely unmodified from what you would find on the showroom floor. Making the 308's world record even more remarkable was that the car was carrying the additional weight of two people plus luggage needed for the 25 day trip.
