WorldÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s Biggest Production Pick-up Truck

Chicago, Illinois - General Motors' uber-SUV, the Hummer, has been the biggest and baddest passenger vehicle on the US market to date but now there's a double-cab from International that could have it for breakfast.

It's the CXT Ã¢â‚¬â€œ the biggest double-cab in the world and the offspring of a 20-ton hauler and other International "severe service" trucks used by governments and the construction and waste industries.

It's due to go on sale in the US later this year.

It shares its platform with dump trucks and snowploughs so is absolutely unrivalled in capability, size and appearance Ã¢â‚¬â€œ it's so ugly, it's beautiful

All-wheel drive is, of course, standard, as are air brakes. The cabin seats six and can be customised with everything from a flat-screen TV to beds and leather upholstery. It's pretty much up to the buyer Ã¢â‚¬â€œ just like a Rolls-Royce.

This Tonka-style pick-up has been modelled by International, part of the GM store, and will be rated to carry a six-tons payload!

International Truck and Engine Corporation assembles commercial trucks and mid-range diesel engines and the CXT has been conceived as an industry-worthy truck with some of the consumer comforts of luxury bakkies.

It combines towing, dumping and tipper capability with a 165kW / 732Nm International DT 466 quad-valve diesel engine that has a reputation for hauling pretty much anything you can hook on to it.

With its electronically controlled turbocharger, the maker says, it promises "responsiveness, acceleration, outstanding fuel efficiency, extended serviceability and long-term durability"
The ride is softened by the cab riding on air suspension

The drivetrain features a smooth-shifting Allison 2500 Series five-speed automatic transmission and the ride is softened by the cab riding on air suspension.

Buyers will be able to customise their wheels with a leather interior, wood grain trim, reclining captain chairs, a fold-down bench that can be used as a bed, a DVD and a rear-mounted reversing camera.

The truck will retail from US$95 000 (R620,000) Ã¢â‚¬â€œ which is about double the price of a Hummer SUV.

A spokesman for International Truck and Engine said the CXT was scheduled for a soft launch in the fourth quarter of this year with a full roll-out in 2005.

The build rate will be between 600 and 1000 units during 2005 at a plant in Garland, Texas and it's hoped customers will come from among the more extrovert people in construction, lawn care, lawn and garden stores, brick and stone contractors, home builders, carpenters, landscape designers, roofers, home improvement companies, auto repair and paint shops, commercial boating businesses and boat racers.

"It's so ugly, it's beautiful" , begitulah komentar journalist yg menulis artikel ini.

CXT Double-Cab ini diluncurkan untuk membunuh Hummer.
Sewaktu di wawancara di teve, pihak International (yg meluncurkan CXT ini) menyebut CXT mereka ini sebagai "Hummer Killer", oleh karena kemampuan CXT ini yg jauh lebih badak daripada kemampuan Hummer. Inilah pickup terpowerful dan terganas on the market.

Gue gak salah bikin topic tuh, oleh perusahaan International (perusahaan yg men-produksi model ini), model CXT ini memang pickup, makanya dibaca tuh artikelnya, jangan cuma dilihat gambarnya doang

CXT ini memang diluncurkan dengan tujuan untuk membunuh Hummer (terutama Hummer yg versi pickup), so jangan heran kalo CXT ini tampangnya garang, karena kemampuannya pun garang.
