Hell has indeed frozen over, and the first U.S-bound rear-drive, V-8-powered Hyundai has slid right across the ice into our world. The Genesis concept-shown first at the 2007 New York International Auto Show-is the precursor to a 2008 production model that has some pretty potent targets (the Mercedes-Benz E-class and the BMW 5-series were called out right in the press release) in its crosshairs.
While some important details like the V-8's 4.6 liter displacement, the six-speed transmission by ZF, and 53/47 front-to-rear weight distribution have been revealed, Hyundai is being a bit shady about some important figures. Horsepower will be "well over 300," pricing will start "well under $30,000," and 0-to-60 mph will be achieved in "well under six seconds." Those claims should be well within reach. The new engine, known at the Tau, is a 32-valve unit that Hyundai claims has been designed with the future in mind. That means the Tau is ready for larger displacements, forced induction, and other technologies.
As you'd expect, Hyundai is unleashing its entire arsenal of technology and gizmos with the Genesis. It will be Hyundai's first U.S. car with adaptive cruise control, push-button start, and high-intensity discharge headlamps. Also available will be heated and cooled seats, navigation, bluetooth, and an Infinity surround sound stereo.
Hyundai claims that with the Genesis will come a new era at Hyundai, one where enthusiasts will finally open their eyes to the Korean brands. We've heard talk that the next Tiburon sports car will also use this platform, and could even use the same V-8 engine. We'll have to wait and see.

Well, who could've guessed, a Hyundai Luxury Car with rWD and a V8 ?
... Tapi kudos for Hyundai, mereka sekarang sudah bisa buat mobil2 berkualitas and it seems that they keep improving ..
Looks like Hyundai is entering the luxury market sooner than Honda/ Acura, hehe
Sampai sekarang Honda msh belum memiliki platform rwd + v8 untuk luxury car

Confirmed. A spokesperson at Hyundai has said that the 4.6L Tau Engine will be tuned to produce 380 HP and a 3.8 Lambda V6 will produce 300 HP. It will all be mated to a 6 Speed Automatic Transmission (probebly Aisan) and RWD

gw sih masih agak ragu bisa nggak hyundai jual mobil mewah dengan merek hyundai? mungkin hyundai perlu banyak belajar dari VW phaeton/mitsu diamante/mazda millenia (mazda 9) yang kurang mendapat respon karena harga mahal tapi dari merek biasa2 aja.....
hyundai azera dgn kelas lebih tinggi dari camry tapi seharga camry aja gak laku tuh....
malah lebih lakuan sonata

betul...sebagian besar masyarakat indonesia masih belum percaya betul dengan kualitas produksi kendaraan buatan korea n china(yg jepang aja g laku kayak :VW phaeton/mitsu diamante/mazda millenia (mazda 9) )..gw juga pesimis tuw mobil bakal laku di jual..coz kalo gw liat sejauh ini segmentasi hyundai masih sering bermain di mobil kelas dibawah 200jt..so kalo tiba2 masuk bawa mobil mewah n masih bawa nama hyundai..agak susah kayanya...
tp bener g siy..gw denger ada gosip kalo hyundai mesin underlisenced dari mitsu..kayak trajet pake mesin mtsu..bener g tuw?trus ni genesis gimana?apa emng udah tech sendiri?kualitas block mesin segala macem gimana?

Itu reply diatas saya copy paste dari site lain . Kalo untuk mesin2 model baru semua udah 100 % buat sendiri.
Hyundai butuh halo car .. untuk mengangkat mereknya ... tak begitu jadi soal genesis laku apa engga , tujuan utama mereka adalah untuk mengangkat mereknya . jadi genesis ini ditargetkan untuk jadi lokomotif brandnya

kalo emang bener hyundai mao "mengangkat mereknya" atau mengangkat gengsi merek hyundai, stop iklan2 yang cuma nunjukkin kalo hyundai itu cuma bagus di soal harga murahnya aja.
kalo kita perhatiin iklan2 baru hyundai, dia bukan nunjukkin kelebihan2 atau features2 yang hyundai punya, melainkan membandingkan dengan fitur2 mobil di atasnya, sehingga hyundai keliatan bener2 sbg mobil yg best value yang dari segi features sama bahkan lebih baik dari mobil di atasanya dan pada akhir iklan menyiratkan kalo beli hyundai pasti untung karena dapet mobil keren tapi MURAH!

Yaitu problemya bos .. dengan brand mereka saat ini tidaklah mungkin untuk jual dengan harga yg sama dengan honyota misalnya. Tidak mungkin bisa langsung menancapkan image mobil mewah , membangun brand itu takes time. Dengan Genesis ini mereka bermaksud menunjukkan bahwa value mobil ini kuat tapi engga murahan.
