Turns out the Texas State Fair has more to offer us today besides the 2011 Ford Super Duty. Toyota has also chosen the state shindig to debut its all-new 2010 4Runner SUV. Besides the all-new exterior and interior, the big news is the addition of a 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine and a new Trail grade model for hard core off-roaders. Of course, we'd be remiss not to also mention the sound system's new Party Mode that raises bass and transfers equalization to the rear of the vehicle where hatch-mounted speakers await to please the tailgating crowd.
Both wider and longer than the previous 4Runner, the new model offers an optional third-row seat and is available in three trims: the top-of-the-line Limited, SR5 and new Trail grade. Buyers can choose between rear-wheel-drive 4x2, part-time 4x4 and a full-time 4x4 system with a locking center differential. All 4x4 models get a 4.0-liter V6 producing 270 horsepower and 278 lb-ft of torque and achieving 17 city/22 highway mpg. V6-powered models with 4x2 do slightly better with 17 city/23 highway. The new 2.7-liter four-cylinder is only available on the 4x2 SR5 model and produces 157 hp and 178 lb-ft of torque while returning 18 city/23 highway mpg. Considering the marginal difference in fuel economy, we recommend the V6 and question why Toyota is even offering a four-cylinder option besides a lower starting price.
Toyota describes the 4Runner SUV as more rugged than the Highlander CUV and more versatile than the two-door FJ Cruiser. The question remains how large a market still exists for four-door, mid-size SUVs. The Ford Explorer, which defined the segment in the '90s, will be switching to a unibody platform soon and become more CUV-like. Nevertheless, Toyota still believes there's demand for a rugged, go-anywhere SUV in today's penny-pinching, gas price-fearing market.

Ayo main tebak2an...mesin 2.7 dan 4.0 nya dipake dimana juga
Seperti Prado yg baru (yang share platform dengan 4Runner (basis pickup truck Tacoma)), ini generasi baru ladder frame/live axle Toyota yang sudah bisa fold flat kursi baris ke-3nya. Generasi lama seperti LC, Lexus LX, Prado lama, 4Runner lama, Fortuner...kursi ke-3 lipat ke atas makan tempat.

sekarang emang lagi model kotak2 kali ya, Honda pilot baru juga kotak bener bentuknya.
Ngomong2 soal pelipatan kursi SUV, biasanya yg ane perhatiin kalo lipetnya bisa rata sama lantai (yg rapi banget jadi kalo lagi dilipet engga keliatan ada 3rd rownya), biasanya bangkunya cuma muat 2 orang, tapi kalo lipet samping biasanya lebih gede (muat 3 orang).

Btw hebat nih Toyota, di saat GM dan Ford kelimpungan di ladder frame SUV, Toyota justru mengeluarkan jagoan2 barunya, sepertinya Prado/New GX dan 4 Runner. Denger2 malahan next gen Explorer bakal jadi CUV ya? Kalau begini nanti Toyota bisa jadi rajanya SUV ladder frame nih
menurut ane sih, ladder frame dan cuv gak suatu hal yang berbeda... emang sih, pada umumnya cuv pake monokok...
kalo gini, XJ masuk mana? dia monokok tapi SUV tulen juga...

Cherokees were originally designed to do the mall crawl in questionable weather, not to climb a 30-foot waterfall. As a result, the unibody will flex and eventually get bent out of shape causing issues with door-fitment, creaking and groaning while driving, and many other less than pleasant issues.
T&T was the first to come out with Uni-body stiffeners for your XJ and ours are constructed of 3/16" steel plate . By using our Unibody Stiffeners you can establish a sub-frame where there never has been one.
Coba aja CR-V diajak offroading...kan sama aja

Betul Explorer berikutnya akan pake unibody....tapi belum tentu jadi CUV banci - kalau dia pake reinforced frame (ala Pajero dan Range Rover), akan tetap tough. GM masih ada Escalade, Tahoe...dll...ladder frame monsters
masih lebih irit daripada mobil saya lah... V6 2.5L 1:7 city.. seboros-borosnya Toyota, Suzuki masih lebih boros heheeeeee.... mungkin beda tipis sama Escalade... hehheeee....

selain itu material body n framenya ga main2... klw mw ngebor sasis XJ effortnya 3x lipet ngebor sasis mobil jepang pa lgi sampe motong sesuatu........ siapin aja mata bor pengganti...
blm lgi klw ketukang ketok body biasanya minta harga lebih mahal... soalnya aloot...
tpi klw mw di siksa ga itu ladderframenya toyota atw unibody XJ tetep WAJIB di reinforce sasisnya klw mau awet..

yah, kalo emang udah untuk yang kasar sih emang harus pake reinforced lagi... untung aja belum pake prestressed frame...
