Fake marshal signal causes Toyota #7 Le Mans loss?

Despite starting the race weekend as favourites, Toyota – after the heartbreak of last year’s close finish – failed to garner a podium win at the Le Mans 24-hour endurance race this year. Running in pole position at the tenth hour of the race, the Toyota Gazoo Racing TS050 Hybrid #7 car, driven by Mike Conway (34), Kamui Kobayashi (31) and Stephane Sarrazin (42), was forced to retire with a burnt out clutch.

According to Toyota Gazoo Racing technical director Pascal Vasselon, speaking to sportscar365.com, the loss was a bitter pill to swallow, as he felt the team had done their absolute best to prepare the car in the off-season, only to lose to a bizarre set of circumstances that saw the clutch of the LMP1 race car destroyed due to one too many standing starts.

The incident occurred when Kobayashi pulled into the pit for a routine service during the second safety car period and entered the queue to exit pit lane, when he was given a false signal by a fake marshal to go. Apparently the fake “marshal” was Vincent Capillaire, from the #45 Algarve Pro Ligier LMP2 car, giving a sign of encouragement to Kobayashi, who misinterpreted the signal.

“It’s amazing, someone came to tell him, and we have it on video: ‘Go go go!’ And normally, our drivers are used to the human action dominate signs,” Vasselon said. “From our side, we told him stop because the safety car queue was coming, and it was not possible.”

The resulting start-stop-start-stop confusion caused the car’s clutch to burn out, with Kobayashi retiring the TS050 Hybrid at Porsche Curves shortly after re-entering the Circuit de la Sarthe. “So he had done several restarts with the clutch and the combustion engine… and burned the clutch because he has been thrown into a situation which should not exist,” said Vasselon.

For his part in the fiasco of the #7 Toyota’s loss at Le Mans, Capillaire was fined 1000 euro (RM4,779) by race organisers, handed out during the race itself. “On Saturday night, during the race, I was waiting for my relay, helmeted at my box, I wanted to show my encouragement to the lead car, stopped in red a few meters in front of my box. Was a spontaneous encouragement, as it happens between pilots, and I was fined by the commissioners for this gesture and I admit it was inopportune,” said Capillaire.

Kobayashi was sanguine about this year’s Le Mans result for Toyota Gazoo Racing, saying, “It is very disappointing because I thought it was going to be our day because we were quick and we felt we were controlling the race. Again we found out how hard it is to win Le Mans. Big thanks to the team who put so much effort into this race.”

“It is not only about speed, because we had that but in the end we missed the win. We just have to come back and go for the win again next year,” he continued. Starting in pole position, the Toyota Gazoo Racing TS050 Hybrid #7 completed 154 laps of Le Mans, with 12 pit stops, and clocked a fastest lap of 3 minutes 18.694 seconds.
Wah menarik nih...
Tapi beneran... Semua mobil LMP1 kena trouble semua kemarin...
Even Porsche #2 yg juara aja juga sempet diposisi terakhir di jam-jam awal setelah ganti front electric motor nya...
Untung gk seribet atoyot #8 ganti part nya, yg makan waktu 2 kali lebih lama.

IMHO

OOT dikit

High Perf electric propulsion race car sgt terbantu dgn adanya Super Capacitor

Salam setrum

OOT off

BTW tahun lalu sebetulnya engineer Audi udah buat design mobil balap R18 versi 2017 nya walau masih tahap awal, ini scale model nya:Image
Image

BTW tahun awal (2006) R10 TDI keluar blm seru. Sankin kenceng nya gk ada yg lawan...
Serunya pas Peugeot ikut LMP1 dr tahun depan nya (2007) sampai 2011... Di tahun 2009 bisa ngalahin Audi.

Udah banyak negara Eropa ancang2 melarang mobil Desel start 2020 onwards

lalu pasar terbesar yaitu US juga terakhir kan kasus

jadi mungkin buat pabrikan dah gak ada gunanya naekkin pamor Desel lagi

now E propulsion takes on

fyi jaman SM baru2 nongol malah ada subforum khusus ttg motorsport. isinya share berita2 ttg hasil balapan. terputus krn kontributornya vakum. jd kalau skrg muncul lagi malah bagus. motorsport kan ibaratnya labnya dunia otomotif.

klu lg ga suka ma toyota ya jgn nyelipin pesan kebencian dimana2 kyk pilkada aja. mending bikin trit khusus

saya paling demen sama endurance race..

soal diskusi yg lalu2 kan udah beres sejak bbrp minggu lalu.......

rasanya kurang bijaksana yah ungkit2 hal2 yg gak produktif.....

Salam

Toyota simulating random failures to prepare for Le Mans
Toyota has revealed it has been simulating random failures in its testing programme in order to better prepare itself for this year’s Le Mans 24 Hours.
Technical director Pascal Vasselon explained that the Japanese marque has been trying to improve the way it handles unexpected issues during the 2018-spec TS050 Hybrid’s first endurance test at Aragon.

The drive comes in the wake of the technical problems that have cost Toyota clear shots at victory at Le Mans in the last two years.

It famously lost victory in the French classic with three minutes to go in the 2016 event due to a turbo problem, while a clutch failure and a front axle-motor issue accounted for the hopes of its two leading cars in last year’s race.

“What we’ve changed really is the way we prepare Le Mans,” Vasselon told Motorsport.com. “We spent a lot more time dealing with unplanned situations – unplanned repairs, unplanned problems.

“We really took time for the team to put them in situations that are not normal, because this is where we failed. For example, we say we have suddenly broken the rear-right driveshaft.

“We decide the radio fails, and we see how the driver and the team react. We cause fake problems.

“We have failed on problems that were unusual. And the team has not handled perfectly these situations. Some of them were difficult to handle, but you can always do better.”

Vasselon added the lack of factory competition in the LMP1 class this season has changed Toyota’s approach, particularly as the performance levels of its privateer opposition remain unknown.

“Le Mans is a challenge in itself,” he said. “In the last four years, we could have won three times [2014, ’16 and ‘17], but we lost because we had issues that we did not manage properly.

“This year, we just go to fight Le Mans, not directly our competitors. That’s our challenge.”

Vasselon also revealed that the reduction in the TS050 Hybrid’s fuel capacity to 35.2kg (down from 44.1kg in 2017) meant Toyota would be targeting 11-lap stints at Le Mans.

“We will do three laps less [than in 2017], so we will do 11 laps,” he said. “We will have seven or eight more pitstops more [over the course of the race].”

Toyota will continue its test programme next week at the Portimao circuit in southern Portugal.

:wkkk: makin tambah ngakak sama ambisi nya toyota buat menangin LeMans...
Apalagi tahun 2018/2019 (WEC Super Season) ini di kelas LMP1 cuman toyota doang team manufacturer nya (Porsche LMP1 Team out per the end of 2017), sisa nya team privatir an semua.. :mky_03:

Mungkin harus disimulasi in juga kalo turbo nya putuan sama kalo gearbox nya jedug jedugan :ngacir: :ngacir:

Sekali boyota ya tetap boyota. Gak usah pengen sok sok an ngebut di track deh. Tenaga mantap handling bagus.
