Synthetic Motor Oils: Myths vs. Facts

Looking for the real story on synthetics? Wondering what's true and what's not? These are some misconceptions about synthetics, and facts to set the record straight:

MYTH: Once I use synthetic motor oil in my car, I cannot switch back to conventional motor oil.
FACT: Synthetic motor oils are compatible with conventional and part synthetic (blend) motor oils. However, synthetics deliver superior engine protection versus conventional oils.


MYTH: Using synthetic motor oil will void my vehicle’s warranty.
FACT: Using synthetic motor oil will not void your vehicle’s warranty. Synthetics are formulated to not only meet minimum required industry standards, but also, in many cases, meet tougher industry and vehicle manufacturer standards.


MYTH: Synthetic oil is only for new cars.
FACT: Quality synthetic motor oil can be used in old as well as new cars, including vehicles in which conventional oil was previously used. Synthetic motor oils are beneficial for the good health, long life and top performance of new and old cars.


MYTH: You need to allow a break-in period for new vehicles before using synthetic motor oil.
FACT: In the past, it was recommended that conventional motor oil be used for your first oil change to allow for some controlled wear to break-in the new engine. However, with current engine technology, a break-in period is not necessary. You can use synthetics immediately.


Nah, sekarang sudah I dapat pendapat 3 perusahaan oli besar dan terkenal. Mobil1, Amsoil, dan Castrol. Apakah semua 3 company ini semuanya sembarangan cuman mau cepat untung ? I mean come on ! Kalau jaman sekarang pakai full syn terlalu cepat mesin nanti ngak benar, yang kena dampak kemarahan konsumen itu siapa ? AERA, conan, me or those oli producers ?


Sudah. Enough said. The rest up to masing masing deh. Mau gaya 1970s ala mesin kapsul, tunggu 10,000 atau lebih baru kasih max. protection, or do it my way and give full protection sejak service 1000 km, its up to U.

Note though, kalau dalam jangka pendek mobil itu mau di jual, ya percuma pakai full syn. Pakai mineral, semi and give all those to yr next buyer of your car.

menurut saya, mobil yang paling ngga worth it dibeli (dalam kondisi bekas) ialah : Kijang.

kenapa ?
- boros, rasio bensin 1:6 (yang 2.000cc) adalah rasio bensin untuk mesin 3.000 cc
- tenaga yang dihasilkan termasuk payah untuk mobil 2.000 cc, hanya 80-an HP (Kijang kapsul), seharusnya min 100HP (ini pun hanya 50HP / 1.000cc, sementara untuk mobil 'kenceng' harusnya sampe 100HP / 1.000cc)
- karena harga jualnya sangat bagus, maka ngga worth it beli bekasnya, lebih baik beli baru.
- untuk kijang kapsul (sebelum Innova), masih pake teknologi suspensi jaman kuda gigit batu : per daun untuk per belakang.
- mesin yang 1.800cc merupakan mesin tambal sulam dari 5K ke 7K ke 7K-E, mungkin susah start merupakan akibat mesin tambal sulam ini....

gimana pendapat rekan-rekan lain ?
