J.D. Power Asia Pacific Reports:
Problems Reported by New-Vehicle Owners in Indonesia Increase

Honda City, Toyota Kijang, Nissan X-Trail and Kia Carens
Rank Highest in Initial Quality in their Vehicle Respective Segments

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: November 30, 2004

SINGAPORE—The number of problems reported by new-vehicle owners has increased from 142 problems per 100 vehicles (PP100) in 2003 to 161 PP100 in 2004, according to the J.D. Power Asia Pacific 2004 Indonesia Initial Quality StudySM (IQS) released today.

The study, now in its second year, measures new-vehicle quality in the first two to six months of ownership. The study focuses on 135 problem symptoms affecting quality across these nine IQS problem categories: ride, handling and braking; features and controls; seats; heating, ventilation and cooling (HVAC); sound system; vehicle exterior; vehicle interior; transmission; and engine.

Ride, handling and braking continues to be the top problem category in Indonesia, contributing to almost one-quarter (24%) of all problems reported by new-vehicle owners. Difficultly in operating the gear shift and excessive fuel consumption remain the top two problem symptoms experienced by new-vehicle owners. Their combined IQS score accounts for one-tenth of the total 2004 IQS score.

"While overall sales have registered a sharp increase of about 30 percent compared to 2003, the market composition has shifted toward the lower price end of the market," said Gerrit Kuyntjes, general manager at J.D. Power Asia Pacific. "The average new-vehicle price has decreased by 10 percent, driven by robust growth in sales, especially in the lower-end MPV segment. The study also reveals a correlation between price and initial quality, which further explains the 19 PP100 year-over-year increase in IQS score for the overall industry."

Honda City, with an IQS score of 140 PP100, ranks highest in the entry midsize car segment. Toyota Vios (143 PP100) and Suzuki Aerio (145 PP100) follow closely behind Honda City.

Toyota Kijang ranks highest in the entry SUV segment, recording an IQS score of 138 PP100. The Kijang is followed by the Isuzu Panther (160 PP100) and Daihatsu Taruna (195 PP100).

Nissan X-Trail ranks highest in the SUV segment with a score of 117 PP100, performing particularly well in the area of transmission. Suzuki Escudo ranks second with a score of 120 PP100, followed by Nissan Terrano at 131 PP100.

Kia Carens registers the largest improvement in the study and ranks highest in the MPV/van segment with an IQS score of 160 PP100. The Carens records improvements of 11 PP100 or more on HVAC, seats, vehicle interior and vehicle exterior. Honda Stream and Suzuki Carry follow the Kia Carens, registering 180 PP100 and 198 PP100, respectively.

The 2004 Indonesia Initial Quality Study is based on evaluations from more than 2,300 new-vehicle owners of 33 models representing 12 makes.

And I am happy that my favourite SUV X-Trail did very well considering that machine dia kan modern. Even though this is only a statistical sampling, tapi tetap not bad lah. Malah sedikit di atas Kijang ! Can't wait to see the facelifted / all new X-Trail !

Anyway, the new CRV will be launched hari Kamis minggu ini di Semanggi Expo center. Price still unknown till today.

Mobil2 Korea skrg udah mengalami kemajuan.
